After lawsuits for months between Warner Bros. and Fox, Watchmen finally made it in theaters and this is one of the biggest released for 2009. After Zack Snyder‘s success in 300, he now returned to adapt the most celebrated graphic novel of all time by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

I was really itching to watch this film without reading the graphic novel. Maybe I’m just interested what the ‘hype‘ was all about and all I know is that these superheroes were not the typical type that we usually see which makes it more intriguing for me.

Also before going to the premiere, I read this “What You Need To Know Before Watching Watchmen” courtesy of cinemablend.com which explains further about the film without spoiling anything.

With 2 hours and 45 minutes as running time, Snyder got a lot of room to deliver the most accurate details from the novel as possible. The movie was intended to be slow for each character development, history and flashbacks that some viewers might find it boring but it wasn’t for me. Action scenes were not that much BUT Snyder was not shy to make every action scene a good one. As the movie goes on, each Watchmen characters were shown their own personal struggles in life and on how they become a so called hero. The setting was really good, going back to the past with some alternate facts and timeline was fascinating. Since I wasn’t able to read the novel, the conclusion was really shocking for me yet properly justified and it make sense. It is refreshing to see a villain finally successful on his plan.

To sum it up, Watchmen might be slow, less action BUT I really enjoyed it.

My Rating: 9/10

Recommendation: Some love it, some hate it. Just watch it in theaters and it’s up for you to decide. Also read “What You Need To Know Before Watching Watchmen” maybe this would help to enjoy the film as much as I did.
