Can Piracy Ever be Stopped?

Can Piracy Ever be Stopped?

Piracy has been around as early as 1700 which by that time books were copied and re-print by unauthorized persons. Fast forward to the present, piracy still exists. Worst, it gets even more and more rampant with the help of technology.

Can Piracy Ever be Stopped?

That is a very big question especially today in our modern times. Piracy has never been this big, quick and viral than ever before. Piracy also evolve as fast as our time changes. From physical products up to digital products, you name it almost everything has a piracy counterpart.

One of the biggest problems now is the piracy of digital products which includes softwares, movies, music, games, documents and a lot more. Piracy of digital products was not that dominant until the internet was born. As the internet became popular back on its early stage it also evolved and it claimed the number one source for piracy. Internet is the fastest way to spread these copyright infringement files in a matter of seconds. There are a lot of groups who release a crack/patch/keygen to a certain product to make it ‘legit‘ or good as ‘paid‘.

If you are familiar with torrents, P2P, File Sharing hosts like Rapidshare, Megaupload and many more, then all you need is a fast internet and you are good to go to download what you need.

With this VERY large scope of people involved(almost globally) and a few minutes to spare to download, it would really be impossible to stop this piracy in my opinion. Laws has been implemented in other countries but not all, so it would really be difficult to stop these illegal acts.

I really wonder why the Laws and government can’t stop these people who creates crack/patch/keygens and websites like torrents, P2P, File Sharing hosts like Rapidshare, Megaupload and the like. If they want to stop piracy, better aim to them first and everything else will follow. Well unless the government receives a fat checks from them, that would be a different story.

Piracy can never be stopped unless companies stopped selling OVERPRICED products, don’t you think?

Physical items are stolen without an afterthought, how much more for ephemeral products like music or games ?

yup we should buy orignal not pirated products

i know that orignal is mush more expensive but just think of jobs that will be lost if a certain company shuts down due to piracy.

    so i say STOP PIRACY!!!!

Piracy itself will never go away because people can’t help getting things for free regardless of what it is. I do believe people will be less inclined to pirate if (Big if) companies eventually learn that their digital products no longer have the worth as they once did before the age of internet. If digital products such as games & music become much cheaper where the value/cost is worth to the consumer & is unDRM or has very non-intrusive DRM like Steam, then people would still buy good products to support the developers who will continue to develop better products.

Anyway, good article. Like you wrote, piracy will only get more rampant over time if the companies don’t learn from their mistakes considering new technology will only improve the DL/UL speeds of individuals which would only make filesharing easier.

I must say a well written article. Although you made some mistakes. You treat piracy as if it’s all bad. Yes stealing is wrong, don’t get me wrong on that front, but if you look at the last five years piracy has really spurred studios. People use piracy to “demo” a game before they go out and buy it. Or preview a movie so they can recommend whether or not to go to it with friends.
