The 2012 Movie and Prophecy
As you notice, a lot of people has been all over 2012 lately, not just the movie that just hit theaters Friday but also the real-life 2012 prophecy that originated from the Mayans.
Well the prophecy, just like the Y2k and the ‘3 days of darkness‘ craps that we also bought like decade ago, is primarily based on the Mayan Long Count calendar that says the earth’s going to expire three years from now. The Mayan calendar shows that the earth lasts only 5,125 years and so now the 5,125th year falls on the year 2012 at the exact date of December 21st. That is the time believed to be when the earth is going to undergo some physical or only-God-knows-what-else changes and starts anew. Although modern day Mayans themselves are said to be not into this prophecy anymore, a lot of people are still in unison because of the accuracy of most Mayan predictions.
At this point, the 2012 prophecy is already giving people creeps and some sort of paranoia as depicted in the movie 2012. Well anyway, those are just people who are either so stupid not to learn from the 2 prophecies mentioned above or so blind and self-righteous not to think and realize that the world is better off ending anyway. If the world HAS to end, fine.
Going back to 2012 The Movie, would you believe it grossed $65 million on it’s first day making it the fifth biggest movie that opened internationally ever. The movie broke Michael Jackson’s Box-Office record with the total of $225 million worldwide just weekend. People seems interested on how the world might end after all.
But despite the hype that the movie is getting, it hardly scored an average rating from top movie critics because of lousy script and actors. It gained a 6.7/10 rating from IMDB and a 23% average rating from Rotten Tomatoes. According to Rotten Tomatoes overall consensus, the movie “lacks a strong enough script to support its massive scope and inflated length“.
Watch movie 2012 and you be the judge! I’ll personally rate it 6.5/10 overall.
