How to Avoid Being Late for Work

How to Avoid Being Late for Work

I just received a disciplinary action from the office because of the topic I’m about to post. Sigh… I know I deserved it and I know this would happened and worst was I didn’t do anything to improve myself. Sometimes I would like to beat myself until I realized something wrong before it is too late.

This has been one of my problem in my whole life, punctuality… where art thou?

So here are some tips that could help us especially ME!

1.) Prepare Everything the Night Before – Prepare the clothes you will wear for tomorrow’s work and prepare the things you will need to avoid doing this in the morning. This would also help you out not to forget to bring something since you have lots of time the night before.

2.) Have Enough Sleep – Hmm… a tough one. But yes this could really help us in order not to be late the next day. With this you will be up earlier and more ready for the day.

3.) Avoid Distractions in the Morning – I could relate with this. Early morning the first thing I do is to check my emails if I got one from my client. Browse stuff then the next thing I know, I’m late! Maybe TV does as well so if possible avoid it unless you know you got enough time.

4.) Look Forward for Something Good Daily – Instead of thinking work is boring, why not make it fun? It doesn’t mean that if you are working you can’t have fun. Be creative and do something to make you more excited doing your work. Get motivated!

5.) Give Time Allowance on the Way to Workplace – Obviously you’ll have an idea how many minutes/hour you will  have to travel on the way to your workplace. Give atleast 15 minutes allowance since you will never know what unexpected things you might encounter on your way.

6.) Time Awareness and Management- In the morning, be sure you are aware what time is it. After taking a bath, breakfast or dressing up check the time and manage it. Make sure you have enough time including your way to the workplace.

7.) Reward/Punish Yourself – This can be optional but I guess if you truly implement this without cheating yourself, you’ll never be late again. Punishment can be like no TV or Video Games for tonight(Ouch!) or as a reward you can do those.

Aside from this tips, the only one who can help you is yourself. Tardiness might be a minor offense but it would definitely affect your assesment so we(I) should improve for the better.

Last tip… If you are really running late, dont take a bath!
Just put a small amount of baby powder on your hair to take out the grease, chew gum to take morning breath away and dampen your face. Works everytime

I’d like to add, don’t play music early in the morning. I know people use it to wake themselves up but think, 1 song typically takes 5 minutes and sometimes people wait for 1 song to be finished or suddenly synchronize themselves with song that they like. That 1 song becomes 2 then 3 especially if you’re playing your favorites playlist. 5 songs and remember 5 x 5 minutes – 25 minutes. You’ve just wasted nearly half an hour.
