Confessions of a Shopaholic
Yes, all she ever wanted was a little credit…that’s what every shopaholic says I guess till they realize that they want more. Based on a novel by English author Sophie Kinsella a.k.a Madeleine Wickham, the movie had some differences on what the book really says. One of which would be the setting, in the book the notable start was actually in London rather than in New York.
Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is an addict of major proportions, unable to let go of the exhilaration that shopping brings, a feeling that the world is better for her purchases. I was amazed on how they were able to convey what makes Rebecca shop, when she buys this sophisticated green scarf on her way to a job interview for a fashion magazine, this manequine was seducing her and urging her to buy this pretty yet expensive scarf. She fells in love with this man she met at a hotdog stand, Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy) who hired her when he received her sample article.
Luke Brandon dumped his hot date for Rebecca. She describes Rebecca as the most vivacious, funny, inspiring woman he ever met. Rebecca’s debt secrets revelead in national television! Everything fell apart but was able to make it all up by selling her expensive possessions on a sale.
Better watch this movie for more funny and romantic scenes! Can’t write everything here!

I actually like this one! Other than the obvious title of shopaholic where someone so materialistic can’t help but buy something “just in case” yet fail to ask “just in case what? The end of the world perhaps?” What made me love the movie was the use of real defense mechanisms such as denial that she has a serious problem called “retail therapy” and rationalization where she makes up reasons why should buy this and that.
The story was smarmy in a way but it’s climax was really fun to watch. Seeing all those shopaholics selling for a change may not be realistic but wraps up the story nicely, giving a message that shopping is okay but not in excess.
The ending however was a bit hanging, I never found out if the whole of New York found a new light in the green scarf girl because at first I thought she sold the identity away only that her love of her life bought it from her.
When can I see confessions of a blogger? Lolz
