Drag Me to Hell

Drag Me to Hell

Before Sam Raimi was famous for his Spider-Man movies, he was also known for the classic masterpiece The Evil Dead trilogy which means he isn’t new to the horror genre. The last time he made a horror film was way back year 2000 with The Gift, can he still pull some scary tricks for the audience?

Judging by the trailer the plot itself isn’t that complicated and straight forward. A woman name Christine Brown(Alison Lohman) was cursed by the gypsy(Lorna Raver) who denied her extension request for her house.

Honestly, the movie delivered some holy sh*t moments that I never see it coming. I still watched it without blinking an eye but I cover my ears, sound effects really adds the tense. The movie also got some exaggerated(funny too) scenes like their brawl in the parking lot. She is one tough old woman! I like the gypsy’s performance, she might deserve an award or something. There are two things I found a bit disappointing though. First was the ‘twist‘, it was way too obvious which became anti-climactic. I feel sorry for her, she went to the grave thinking it would be over but the audience already knew before she even got there. Lastly, the dragging to hell to that child was much better than the main character(sorry for the spoiler but yes she died). It was so quick and less dramatic.

Overall, I can’t deny that Sam Raimi still got it! This movie delivers pure straight forward horror and if you want to be scared then you got to see this. Raimi will be back next year with another horror film, funny thing is… he will remake his own movie The Evil Dead then go back to Spider-Man 4. Weird.

I agree Hen. I like the straightforwad style of Sam and maybe it’s his way to make that horror movie a bit lighter. Though I would have preferred a more serious plot, a little more drama then that would be a very scary and sympathizing horror movie.
