Surrogates

Surrogates

Bruce Willis is back on the big screen once again on this sci-fi action movie Surrogates. It was set in a future where humans just sit all the day from their homes and let the Surrogates robot interact on the outside world. Bruce Willis plays as a cop who investigate the murders of Surrogates which also kills their respective hosts.

The movie itself has a great story but in my opinion it was poorly executed which makes it good but not that unforgettable. The movie starts a bit slow and it was not that action pack so don’t expect too much of it. The Surrogates CGI effects is fair, not that great. It was set on the future but the only futuristic we’ve seen are the robots itself and nothing else, still feels like the present settings. The acting is also fair, maybe because they are Surrogates but when Willis was supposed to play as a human, I still feel like he was a robot despite of his visible wounds. I find Ving Rhames’ role and costume ridiculous. His beard was so obvious to be fake. The finale makes me wonder if what Willis did was a noble act or a selfish move. It’s up for the audience to decide. They could have extended a few minutes and show what happened after the Surrogates were wipe out and if Willis was lock on jail or not.

Overall, as what I’ve said great plot, poor execution but still entertaining enough. I think it won’t leave a mark on our brains just like Live Free or Die Hard. The concept was really great, imagine if that would really happen. You’re making out on a hot woman Surrogate without knowing that the host behind it was a fat guy. Nice.

The movie was actually based on a comics series The Surrogates by Top Shelf Productions. Yep, the concept is unique – allowing your personal “surrogate”, a highly advanced robot of what you would like to be on the outside world, be you. This made everyone have the power to be their alternate identity while being in the comfort of their very homes. This eliminated society’s standards of what is beautiful, what is taboo, what is sexual, racist, stereotypical, and what is moral in the eyes of nature and of man. In short, it made everyone equal, to society’s eyes that is. And eventually society forgot what it truly means to be human… pain, suffering, joy, struggle… the very primal and basic factors that let us want to live. Well, this opinion I got from the comics but the movie, well it really did not tackle very much on these topics… although the main character’s background ans story made that point, but it really didn’t stick. I thought this was a good movie. hehe..

the movie was made well depicting the trials and hardship that a surrogate father undergoes in todays social interaction.
