Pickpocket: Tips to Prevent Thefts

Pickpocket: Tips to Prevent Thefts

Weird post today I guess, but surely because I was almost a victim today. It was just a usual routine of going home after work. Me and my girlfriend were walking along Claveria st., Davao City to wait for a jeepney. I used my new pack bag and hooked them behind my back, while walking I felt something was trying to unzip my upper part of the bag where I put my PSP, My loyal N70 phone, my insufficient funds wallet and a mousepad. Yup I brought a mousepad, deal with it.

I immediately noticed it and quickly turn around. I saw a person behind me and he quickly shifted counting coins which were on his hands and said “excuse me, excuse me.” Hmm.. an English speaking theft. Then he pretend as if he was on a hurry and walk like there was a ghost after him. Before we cross the street I ask my girlfriend to check my bag behind me and she said the zipper was half open. I checked and nothing was missing, the pickpocket wasn’t successful but this serves as an example that we should always be alert.

UPDATE: I was looking for my office I.D. this early morning and I remembered that last night I also place it where the theft attempted to pickpocket me. My I.D. sling was visible since me and my girlfriend was on a hurry and I didn’t place it properly inside my bag. The theft might assumed that it was a cellphone at the end point of that sling not knowing it was my I.D. but he still took it. Gesh, now I have to get an affidavit of lost and a new company I.D.:(

So here’s a short and simple tips to prevent thefts and pickpocket around the Street:

Be Aware – I don’t suggest sniffing each person you encounter but if you spot someone weird or suspicious then be on guard.

Stay Focus – I’ve seen this before especially on group thefts, a little distraction and the next thing you know something is missing from you.

Don’t be a Target – Gadgets and expensive things attracts pickpocket, just hide it especially on crowded places.

Hold Things Tightly – This seems impossible all the time but at least try it and never let your bags/expensive things easy to pull from you.

Our city is a good place to live but of course there is no guarantee of 100% safety anywhere around the world. Just be on guard and less showy if possible to prevent thefts and pickpocket.

Good for you, nothing was stolen.

We should be always be watchful with our valuable things when we are in public because we will never know when will those a**h*** strikes.

My sister was a victim..the first thing that was stolen to her was her cellphone and then few months later her wallet was stolen..

from what i gathered in the streets

you were caught with your pants down

according to the pimps you were checking out new chicks on display

thats why the pickpocket was able to move behind you unnoticed
